PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. (PCJL) has officially launched the 2026 drilling program in Jabung Working Area with the spudding of the NEB-85ST well in West Tanjung Jabung on January 15. The spud in is the first of six planned by PCJL this year, alongside 11 workover operations and 170 well service activities across Jabung.

PCJL VP Operation Khostarosa Andhika Jaya attended the spud in ceremony, along with SKK Migas Drilling and Well division head Surya Widyantoro and representatives from SKK Migas Southern Sumatra (Sumbagsel) Office.

In his remarks, Andhika emphasized PCJL’s commitment to executing its exploration and production programs efficiently and safely. “The principle of our drilling program is how to ensure Jabung’s contribution to Indonesia. Throughout this year, we will work hard to carry out our work program properly, safely, and responsibly,” Andhika said.

PetroChina Jabung has consistently commenced its drilling program in January over the past five years. The spudding of the SB-D21 well on January 22, 2023, was previously recognized by SKK Migas as the Fastest Well Spud of 2023.

Surya stressed the importance of maintaining safety standards throughout drilling operations, both for PCJL personnel and contractors. “If drilling activities are carried out safely, hopefully targets will be achieved,” Surya said. “In 2025, PCJL successfully completed its drilling program on nine wells. This is an achievement for the company. This year, the company carries out its first spud in in January.  I hope this can be a benchmark for other PSCs,” Surya added.

Under its 2023–2028 Firm Work Commitment (KKP), PCJL is targeting drilling six exploration wells. To date, two exploration wells have been drilled, with a third planned for 2027. PCJL has also completed its seismic surveys, comprising 3D seismic surveys in the Ketemu and Rukam areas and 2D seismic surveys in Eastern Jabung. Data acquisition and processing for these projects were completed by the end of the first quarter of 2025, recording a total of 1.75 million safe man-hours.
