PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. has become among the first oil and gas companies in Indonesia to receive the ISO 37001:2016 Anti Bribery Management System certification.

PT Mutuagung Lestari President Director Arifin Lambaga handed over the certificate to PetroChina President Mr. Nie Changmou in Jakarta on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020. PT Mutuagung Lestari, a member of the National Accreditation Committee, officially issued the certificate on Dec. 15, 2019.

SKK Migas Lead Auditor Mr. Indra Gunawan and IPA Ethics Board member Mr. Krishna Ismaputra also attended the event on Feb. 25.

The certificate signifies that PetroChina Jabung has met the SNI ISO 37001-2016 ABMS standard requirement for exploration and exploitation of oil and gas.

Mr. Nie said that ISO 37001:2016 showed the company’s commitment towards ensuring good corporate governance. "The certificate provides a minimum requirement and supporting guidance for implementing or benchmarking an anti-bribery management system,” he said.

The ISO certificate also provides an assurance to management, investors, employees, customers and other stakeholders that PetroChina is taking steps to prevent bribery risks. “The certificate is evidence that our company has taken reasonable steps to prevent bribery”.

PetroChina’s taskforce team in Jakarta Office and Jabung Field, led by Finance Control and Compliance Department, prepared the implementation of ISO 37001 ABMS in May 2019. The team moved quickly to develop the manual, guidelines and procedures of ISO 37001 AMS.

“Our target was to obtain the ISO 37001 ABMS certification by the end of 2019. It was a very ambitious target indeed but we did it, thanks to the meticulous works of the team,” Nie added.

Indra congratulated PetroChina in his speech, saying that the certification was part of the comprehensive effort to improve governance in upstream oil and gas sector. “This will encourage the upstream oil and gas industry to be cleaner and more accountable. By preventing corruption, fraud and bribery, we can be more focused to reach our targets,” he said.

Meanwhile, Arifin said that he highly appreciated PetroChina for all of the company’s efforts in implementing the ISO 37001:2016 certificate. “The ISO 37001:2016 certificate is a concrete step to prevent bribery and other corporate crimes,” he said.

The ISO 37001:2016 ABMS certification is valid until December 15, 2022.
