On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, SKK Migas-PetroChina together with TJB Regent Safrial harvested organic agricultural products in Lubuk Terentang landfill, Betara District.

This is a part of SKK Migas-PetroChina Jabung corporate social responsibility program namely Organic Waste Processing Program which is integrated with Organic Agriculture Program.

Safrial, SKK Migas Sumbagsel Senior Public Relations Manager Andi Arie Pangeran, PetroChina Community Development staff M. Yusuf and several other regional officials attended the harvesting event.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, Vice President Human Resources and Relations PetroChina Jabung Dencio Renato Boele was unable to attend the event in person.

This sustainable agriculture program was initiated last year. Together with the TJB Environmental Agency (LH), SKK Migas - PetroChina has been assisting communities around the landfill area to process organic waste into fertilizer and plant food and horticultural crops around the area. The 2-hectare land belongs to the TJB Regency Government, whose management lies under the Environmental Agency.

"This organic waste, which originally had no economic value, has been converted into a source of additional income for local residents, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic," said Dencio.

Within a period of 5 months, the community has planted various crops such as corn, long beans, chilies, ginger and water spinach

Before the Tuesday event, the community had succeeded in harvesting 400 kg of corn, 80 kg of red chilies, 100 kg of long beans and 2,400 bunch of water spinach. In addition, they also plant various intercropping plants such as papaya, cassava, banana and peanuts.

"Currently, there are around 75 farmers involved in managing this land, including 25 members from women's farmer group," Dencio added.

This pilot program will continue to be developed based on the potential in the area. "We hope this organic agriculture program will provide maximum benefits for farmers and communities in this region," said Dencio.
