As the operator of Jabung Working Area in Jambi, PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. has actively involved in various forest fire prevention and handling efforts in East Tanjung Jabung and West Tanjung Jabung.
Throughout this year, PetroChina has been involved in nine forest fire handling efforts, including four incidents in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency and five incidents in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. Most of the forest fire incidents occurred near residential areas.
PetroChina is part of the Forest Fire Task Force in Jambi Province, collaborating with the Indonesian Army, the National Police, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Fire Agency, and local communities.
To support disaster preparedness efforts, PetroChina’s forest fire team has also prepared various fire extinguishing tools and equipment, including fire trucks, portable fire water pumps, fire extinguishers, and portable ground monitors.
From August 30 to September 12, 2024, PetroChina was involved in extinguishing forest fires in oil palm plantations near Catur Rahayu Village, Dendang District, East Tanjung Jabung. In other occasions, PetroChina provided fuel for fire vehicles, as well as food supplies for members of the Forest Fire Task Force.
Apart from actively taking part in the forest fire handlings, PetroChina continues to raise awareness of the fire disaster risks to Jabung workers and the local communities.
On September 3-4, 2024, PetroChina held a workshop titled “Fire & Explosion Engineering Safety Processing & Production Facility” in Jambi. The event was attended by hundreds of participants, including PetroChina employees, representatives from the BPBD, and firefighters from Jambi Province, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, and Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. This two-day event aimed to strengthen participants' understanding of potential hazards, investigation, and accurate identification of fire causes.
PetroChina also collaborated with the Office of Public Order and Firefighting (Satpol PP) of Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency to establish volunteer firefighting units in all villages and sub-districts in Geragai District. On August 22, 2024, a socialization meeting to prepare the formation of the volunteer units was held in Geragai. This initiative to establish a volunteer unit is part of PetroChina’s community development program in environmental protection and disaster prevention and mitigation.
