Around 300 employees attended the event, which was held under the theme of “Strengthen the Communication during Pandemic with Ied Mubarak Spirit”.

In his opening remarks, PetroChina President Qian Mingyang said that Eid this year could symbolize resilience in the continuous fight against Covid-19 and in adhering to health protocols.

“Eid is usually a time for celebration with extended families. However, these past two years, Eid has been very different. We cannot travel or hold large family gatherings. We keep our distance from our extended families in this holiday season in order to keep them safe,” he said.

Hopefully, Qian continued, employees could soon gather again with their loved ones again and celebrate victory against Covid-19.

Meanwhile, PetroChina Moslem Community (BDI) chairman Hendra Niko Saputra said that employees should use the moment of Eid to refresh and improve communication for better collaboration and teamwork.

“[Eid] is the time for us to open up our hearts and to forgive one another for any mistakes among us, both intentional and unintentional,” he said.

Popular millennial cleric Hilman Fauzi gave an Islamic talk at the event. He spoke about redefining “silaturahmi” during the Covid-19 pandemic. Silaturahmi is a concept in Islam that means the strengthening of relationships among friends, relatives and humanity. As pandemic conditions necessitates social distancing, how to maintain silaturahmi has been a much-discussed issue among Muslims.

“Even under the pandemic, there are still ways to maintain silaturahmi. We can do it by praying for the safety of one another, giving gifts, spreading happiness, visiting and forgiving one another. We can still do all of these virtually,” he said.

“In the spirit of Eid, let us cleanse of hearts and be willing to maintain silaturahmi with everyone around us,” he continued.
