SKK Migas – PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. planted 35,000 mangrove seedlings at Pangkal Babu Mangrove Ecotourism Area in commemoration of the 2024 World Environment Day, which fell on June 5. A symbolic planting event was held in the tourism site on June 6, attended by PetroChina Jabung Government and Relation Supt. Lasno and other staffs.

Also in attendance were representatives of West Tanjung Jabung’s Environment Agency, Regional Development Planning Board, Tourism Sports and Youth Agency, Fisheries Agency and Creative Economy Committee, as well as local students and tourism awareness groups.

Lasno said that the mangrove planting was proof of PetroChina Jabung’s real effort to preserve the environment. “Today’s activity is part of our mangrove planting program that will take place throughout the year. Hopefully, local communities will be encouraged to continue planting mangrove,” he said at the planting event.

West Tanjung Jabung Environment Agency head Suparjo said that he thanked PetroChina for supporting mangrove planting initiatives in the mangrove ecotourism area. “We encourage all of our stakeholders, including private entities,” to join in nurturing and preserving the environment for the benefit of future generations,” he said, as quoted by local media.

Local community members shared Suparjo’s sentiments. Hakim, the head of Pangkal Babu Coastal Youth (Pemuda Pesisir Pangkal Babu), said that he hoped mangrove planting activities would continue to be held with more parties involved to ensure sustainability in protecting coastal areas.
