PetroChina highlighted the 20 year journey and operational excellence of Betara Gas Plant (BGP) during the IPA Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex) 2026 held in ICE BSD on May 20th-22nd, 2026. Through a scale model of the facility, educational presentations, and a timeline wall showcasing BGP’s development since 2005, PetroChina introduced visitors to the important role BGP plays in supporting Indonesia’s energy security.

As part of the exhibition, BGP Operation Specialist Ade Rafsanjani and BGP Operation DCS Operator Nurayah hosted a presentation session at the PetroChina booth for members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers Universitas Indonesia Student Chapter (SPE UI SC) and SPE Universitas Pertamina Student Chapter (SPE UP SC). The session provided insights into BGP’s gas processing operations, its role in the national energy supply chain, and the operational excellence that has enabled the facility to operate reliably for two decades.

Located in Betara District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi, the facility continues to play a crucial role in the national energy supply chain and in meeting domestic gas demand. Since starting operations in 2005, BGP has processed hydrocarbons with high carbon dioxide (CO2) content from production wells into sales gas and natural gas liquids (NGL).

To date, BGP has produced more than 171.03 million barrels of NGL and 711,041 MMSCF of sales gas. This achievement highlights BGP’s role as one of the key supporting facilities in the Jabung Working Area.

Sales gas produced by BGP is transported through PT Transport Gas Indonesia’s pipeline network to several buyers, including Pertamina Hulu Rokan and local power plants such as PT GJE-TJPP. Meanwhile, NGL is sent to the North Geragai Fractionation Facility for further processing and separation into propane, butane, and condensate.

During its two decades of operation, BGP continues to be a strategic part of the national energy supply chain while supporting industrial activities. The stable performance of BGP is the result of technology modernization that is carried out periodically. Since beginning operations in 2005, BGP has undergone continuous modernization efforts. One of the major milestones was the completion of the BCD4 (Inlet LP Compressor) project in 2012, which enabled BGP to operate in LP-HP mode.
