Female employees of PetroChina joined a virtual Kartini’s Day celebration themed “Better Food Better Mood” on Thursday, April 21. The event was attended by 148 people.

The theme was picked as it was deemed close to female workers with double roles, namely in the office and at home. The event featured live cooking with chef Steby Rafael.

In his opening speech, PetroChina Vice President Human Resources and Relations Dencio Renato Boele said that he hoped the event would be lively despite being held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Over time, Kartini Day Celebration has featured a huge range of topics as roles for women have expanded significantly. Accordingly, celebrating Kartini Day today is not merely about wearing kebaya [traditional dress]. It has become a medium for sharing new and valuable information for for female workers. Stay safe and stay healthy. Happy Kartini Day to all PetroChina srikandi [heroines],” he said.

Kartini, a Javanese princess who lived during Dutch colonial era, is known for her ideas on women’s rights. She is seen as a symbol of women empowerment in Indonesia. Celebrating Kartini Day event is a tradition at PetroChina to celebrate female employees’ contribution to the company.
