General Manager Jabung Wang Qilin received the award in a virtual ceremony on September 28, 2021.

PetroChina won its first the prestigious Subroto Award for the same category in 2017. The ministry included eleven awarding categories, namely oil and gas safety, non-tax revenue and financial performance of oil and gas, electricity safety, non-tax revenue for coal and mineral, innovation and good governance for mining, energy efficiency, geothermal industry, biodiesel distribution, geology conservation and disaster mitigation, manpower improvement in Energy and Mineral Resources sector, and journalist covering energy issues.

The award takes its name from Indonesia’s 7th Mining and Energy Minister Subroto, who is regarded as the key figure in developing the energy industry in Indonesia. Subroto served as the minister between 1978 and 1988 and was named as Secretary General of OPEC from 1988 to 1994.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif and Subroto, who just turned 98 this September, attended the virtual ceremony. “We host the ceremony today while commemorating of Energy and Mining Day. Congratulations to all winners. I hope this award, and Pak Subroto himself, inspires stakeholders in the energy sector to work harder and contribute more for the sake of the people,” said Arifin.

Wang said that the award would boost Jabung workforce’ determination to keep the safety record. “As the operator of Jabung Block, we put safety as our top priority. We are very grateful to receive this award amid the COVID-19 Pandemic,” Wang said. “Operating an oil and gas block during pandemic has given us challenges like never before, but this appreciation encourages us to do even better,” he added.

The Subroto Award for oil and gas safety category highlights the winners’ achievements on safety management system that results in safe working hours without incidents. There were a total of 18 winners in this category this year.

PetroChina has received multiple safety awards on safe working hours in Jabung Block. In November 2020, the ministry awarded Patra Nirbhaya Karya Utama I, the highest safety award from the ministry for oil and gas players in Indonesia. PetroChina was one of only five exploitation companies that received the award.

As Jabung Block operator in Jambi, PetroChina booked 60,533,145 safe working hours without lost time incident between December 15, 2011 and April 30, 2020.

“This award is dedicated for all Jabung workforce. I would also like to thank SKK Migas, our partners and the communities living around our working areas for their enormous supports, especially during the pandemic,” Wang said.
