Some 1,450 cyclists participated in the race in three distance categories, namely 17 kilometers, 45 kilometers and 76 kilometers. They competed for various prizes, including mountain bikes, road bikes, folding bikes, GPS cycling computers, bike helmets and others. PetroChina donated three road bikes as competition prizes.

A winner announcement ceremony and prize draw was held in Jambi city on September 4, 2021. The race itself was held throughout August this year. Cyclists could register on Aug. 1-17 and joined the virtual race on Aug. 7-25. Cyclists could join the race from all over Jambi province. They were required to wear red-and-white clothing, visit local attraction spots while cycling and post photos of their cycling activity on Instagram. They should also upload their Strava cycling statistics to the competition’s website. These were then used to determine winners.

Jambi mayor Syarif Fasha congratulated the winners in his speech at the ceremony on Sept. 4. “We have completed the virtual cycling race. The Jambi city administration wishes to thank SKK Migas and PSCs for supporting the event,” he said. He continued that the event showed that the pandemic did not discourage people from getting active or exercising.

Meanwhile, SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office Head Anggono Mahendrawan said that his office highly appreciated the Jambi city administration for the initiative. “Other than to commemorate the Independence Day anniversary, this event is a good campaign of how to stay healthy and productive during the Covid-19 pandemic, namely through cycling while still adhering to health protocols,” he said.

PetroChina Jabung communication manager Ginandjar said that the company was glad to have supported the event. “This event, which combines offline exercise and online application, is a new experience for PetroChina. Hopefully, this can be a good campaign to encourage people to stay healthy and active during the pandemic,” he said.
