The event had both offline and online attendees, with the offline participants gathering in Jambi city and the online ones joining via Zoom.
PetroChina’s senior public relations superintendent Afdal moderated a discussion session on media and communications strategies, on which SKK Migas senior communications manager Nyimas Fauziah Rikani spoke.
Rikani said that public relations officers at upstream oil and gas companies should focus on key messages in order to boost the effectiveness of their public outreach efforts. “Our key message is ‘the success of upstream oil and gas is the success of Indonesia’.”
“We need to really listen and find out what our stakeholders want, what information they need. This way, we can tailor our public outreach efforts to suit what people need from us. For instance, this year, SKK Migas will focus on publications about the upstream oil and gas industry as driver of the economy. Let’s use our communication channels to tell stories about our contributions for people’s welfare,” she explained.
The public relations work meeting is an annual event for coordinating public relations activities between SKK Migas and production sharing contractors (PSCs). This year’s work meeting was opened by SKK Migas Sumbagsel head Anggono Mahendrawan, while SKK Migas deputy of business support’s expert staff Didi Setiarto gave the keynote speech. Other discussion sessions were on land matters as well as community development and institutional relations.
