Latest Update on Injured Workers’ Medical Status, Handover of Work Accident Compensation
SKK Migas and production sharing contractor PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. informs that, of the six workers injured in working accident in NEB#9 area who are still receiving hospital treatment, two workers no longer require additional treatment and are awaiting full recovery, three others have begun physiotherapy treatment and another one who was previously in intensive care has passed critical period. Physiotherapy and medical treatment are carried out in hospital in Jakarta.
The work area that injured eight workers took place in NEB#9 area in Betara, Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi, on Sunday (18/12/2022) after workers finished repairing a gas pipe leakage connecting West Betara wells to Betara Gas Plant (BGP).
Of the eight injured workers, six were evacuated to Jakarta on Monday (19/12) to receive hospital intensive care while the remaining two were treated in hospital in Jambi. Two workers, Kastalani and Randi Afrianto, died after several days of hospital treatment in Jakarta.
All workers injured in NEB#9 work accident get the best medical treatment in line with their conditions. PetroChina provides airplane tickets, accommodation and daily allowance in line with company regulations for family members accompanying the workers in hospital. The company also facilitated the entire process of transporting the remains of deceased workers back home, the funerals and also the transportation of family members from Jakarta to their respective homes.
The eight workers injured in the work accident are from four companies (PSC PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. and three subcontractors namely PT Mucoindo Perkasa, PT Devi Mandiri and PT Spektra Megah Semesta) with active membership in the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan) and additional insurance provided by PSC PetroChina.
With active BPJS memberships and all requirements fulfilled, the families of Kastalani and Randi Afrianto obtained work accident compensations. The symbolic handover of benefits from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to the next of kins of the two deceased workers were carried out at the official residence of Tanjung Jabung Barat Regent on 29 December 2022.
Based on BPJS Ketenagakerjaan regulations, Kastalani’s family received Rp 373,411,115 (US$24,360), including Rp 148 million for the education of his two children up to college. Kastalani left behind a wife and four children, three of whom are still undergoing education. Meanwhile, Randi Afrianto’s family received Rp 174,995,500. He was the first of two siblings.
The two deceased workers are eligible for work accident benefits from BPJS Ketenagakerjaan that have been handed over to the beneficiaries as well as additional insurance from PSC PetroChina, of which the disbursement is still being processed. PSC PetroChina is also preparing education assistance for the younger sibling of Randi Afrianto and additional education assistance for Kastalani’s children.

PetroChina’s Working Hours in Adherence to Indonesia’s Laws
Here is the latest updates on the incident on NEB#9 area in Betara, Tanjung Jabung Barat.
PetroChina International Jabung Ltd., a production sharing contractor (PSC) under the monitoring and supervision of upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas, informs that it operates Jabung Working Area in Jambi Province for 24 hours a day. “Production of oil and gas goes on all the time, with our workers serving as the backbone of this activity,” Vice President Human Resources and Relations Dencio R. Boele said on Wednesday (28/12).
The 24-hour working hour is not unique to Jabung Working Area. It can also be found in other oil and gas vlocks. All field workers directly involved in oil and gas production has different working duration in one day.
“Gas pipe leakage can happen in any working area and leakage must be repaired immediately at any hour to ensure safety in the surrounding areas,” Dencio continued. Leakage must be managed immediately to prevent any production loss.
“The night-time pipe repair was carried out by workers on standby. If any worker is working outside his or her working hour, the company will pay overtime in line with regulations,” Dencio explained.
Investigation is still ongoing. For now, it has be ascertained that all workers were wearing full PPE in line with procedures and had the required working permit documents at the time of the incident.
SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office head Anggono Mahendrawan reaffirmed that all field workers have adhered to SOPs, including the eight workers injured in the accident at NEB#9 area. “Every worker going to the field has to go through checks, including on fitness to work, work permits, use of full PPE and safety induction,” he said. 24-hour production activity is monitored and checked regularly and in shift, in line with work hours. “If there is any problem on the field, workers must respond quickly including on gas pipe leakage, to avoid any hindrances on gas production process, “ Anggono said.

Condition of Workers Receiving Hospital Treatment Improving
SKK Migas – PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. informs that one worker who received hospital treatment in Jambi for injuries during work accident in NEB#9 Area was released from hospital on Monday (26/12). The condition of five other workers receiving hospital treatment in Jakarta is also improving.
Of the five workers receiving hospital treatment in Jakarta, one is receiving intensive care and the other four are in regular ward. The work accident in NEB#9 Area in Betara, Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi injured eight workers. Two of them, Kastalani and Randi Afrianto, died after receiving hospital treatment for several days in Jakarta. Both were buried by their respective families in Tanjung Jabung Barat.
“Amid the deep sorrow that PetroChina and families of the deceased are feeling, we are grateful of the improving conditions of our colleagues currently still under hospital treatment. We wish for you prayers and support so that they will get stronger in this treatment process,” Vice President Human Resources and Relations Dencio Renato Boele said.
On Monday (26/12), Dencio accompanied Tanjung Jabung Barat Regent Anwar Sadar in visiting the patients and their families in Jakarta. SKK Migas Senior Manager of Institutional Relations, Safe’i, was present during the visit. Thanks to their improving conditions, two workers were able to talk with the regent through the glass using a telephone. Anwar also met with the patients’ families and gave them support to cheer their spirit.
“Let’s pray for speedy recovery for the patients and for the family to stay strong during this treatment process,” he said.
PetroChina’s internal investigation on the work accident is still ongoing. However, it has been confirmed that, at the time of the accident, all workers were wearing full PPE in line with procedures and had completed all necessary work permits.

PetroChina Announces Second Death in NEB#9 Work Accident
SKK Migas – PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. wishes to inform you the passing away of our dear colleague Bapak Randi Afrianto (25 years old) on December 24, 2022. Pak Randi was one of eight workers injured in the work accident on NEB#9 Area in Betara, Tanjung Jabung Barat, on Sunday (18/12). Pak Randi and five other workers were evacuated to Jakarta for further medical treatment on Monday (19/12).
“The management and all workers of PetroChina are deeply saddened with the departure of our friend, Pak Randi. Our hearts are with Pak Randi’s family. We will continue to provide the best assistance for Pak Randi’s family in this period of mourning,” VP HR & Relations Dencio Renato Boele said.
Pak Randi is the son of Bapak Kasran and Ibu Maspiah. He is the first of two siblings. Pak Randi’s remain was flown to Jambi on Sunday morning (25/12) to be buried by his family.
With this latest update, PetroChina has announced two deaths and six injured workers following the work accident in NEB#9 area. As of Saturday (24/12), four workers were receiving treatment at a hospital in Jakarta and another is receiving treatment in Jambi. One worker who was previously released from hospital in Jambi has been referred to the hospital in Jakarta for further post-incident treatment.
SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office head Anggono Mahendrawan conveyed his condolences for Pak Randi’s death. “We deliver another sad news. Our prayers are with the deceased,” Anggono said.
He also said that all efforts to give the best treatment for all workers are underway with the hope that they can fully recover and be with their families again. He continued that he would monitor developments of all the other workers currently receiving hospital care.

PetroChina Announces Death of Employee Involved in Work Accident in NEB#9
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of our colleague and friend, Bapak Kastalani, who passed away on December 23, 2022. Pak Kastalani was one of the eight workers injured in a work accident in NEB#9 Area in Betara, Tanjung Jabung Barat, on Sunday (18/12). Pak Kastalani and other five workers were evacuated to Jakarta for further treatment on Monday (19/12). He is survived by his wife Masdiana and four children.
The board of management and employees of PetroChina, both in Jabung Field and Jakarta Office, convey our deepest condolences for the family members of Pak Kastalani. Our heart goes out to the family in these trying times.
As of Friday (23/12), the remaining five patients are in stable condition and continue their treatment in Jakarta, while another patient is treated in a hospital in Jambi. One patient who was discharged earlier from the hospital in Jambi with minor injury is now administered in the same hospital in Jakarta to receive follow-up treatment and checkup.

President Director Qian Mingyang Visits Injured Workers in Jakarta
As of Tuesday (20/12), six workers injured in the work accident in NEB#9 area are getting hospital treatment in Jakarta in line with their conditions. A team from PetroChina’s Jakarta office are standing by at the hospital during the treatment process.
“We have also brought the workers’ families to Jakarta so that they can accompany the workers during the treatment process,” Field Manager Jabung Arif Hari Suseno.
On Tuesday (20/12), President Director of PetroChina in Indonesia, Qian Mingyang, visited the workers receiving hospital treatment in Jakarta. He was accompanied by VP Human Resources & Relations Dencio Renato Boele, VP Technical & Business Development Yu Jinbao, and VP Supply Chain Management Gusminar.
In the occasion, Qian was briefed on the six workers’ latest conditions. He also met with representatives of the workers’ families and told them that PetroChina would continue to provide all necessary assistance during the treatment process.

Six Injured Workers Evacuated to Jakarta
SKK Migas-PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. would like to inform that the evacuation process to Jakarta of six workers who were injured during a work accident in NEB#9 area have begun at Monday (19/12) at 7 a.m. In Jakarta, all six workers will receive necessary hospital treatment. A team from PetroChina’s Jakarta office are standing by at the hospital during the treatment process.
“The evacuation was carried out using air transportation over several phases. Currently, all of the workers are in stable condition,” Field Manager Jabung Arif Hari Suseno said.
Other than the six workers, one worker suffering from minor injuries is receiving hospital treatment in Jambi and another worker has been discharged from the hospital.

Injured Workers are Stable and Receiving Medical Treatment in Jambi
SKK Migas-PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. are focusing on continuing medical treatment for the eight workers injured in a work accident on NEB#9 area in early Sunday.
As of Sunday at 8 p.m., all of the injured workers are in stable condition and receiving needed medical treatment in Jambi. Six workers will be flown to Jakarta for further medical treatment on Monday. Another worker with minor injury will continue hospital treatment in Jambi and another one has been released from hospital.
General Manager Jabung Wang Qiling and Field Manager Jabung Arif Hari Suseno have visited the injured workers and met with their families. “PetroChina management ensures that all workers will get the best treatment that they need. We will involve the families throughout the treatment process,” Wang said.
The accident involving the eight workers occurred during the repair work of a 12” Trunk Line in NEB#9 area located in Pematang Buluh village, Betara district, Tanjung Jabung Barat regency, Jambi province on Sunday (18/12) at 1:45 a.m.
During the incident, all workers were wearing full PPE in line with procedures and have all necessary work permits. Currently, the NEB#9 location is heavily guarded so that investigation can go without any obstacle.
Until now, no environmental impact has been reported. Furthermore, the incident has no impact on Jabung Work Area’s average daily oil and gas production.
Previously, SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office head Anggono Mahendrawan said that his office would continue to monitor all developments in the field investigation.
“We will monitor developments in the field. As far as we know, all activities carried out by PetroChina are in line with proper procedures and regulations,” he said. “Representatives of management from SKK Migas and PetroChina have inspected the location of incident and have visited all injured workers. Currently, all of them are stable and in very good care,” Anggono continued.

Work Accident in NEB#9
SKK Migas – PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. regrets to inform there had been working accident in NEB#9 Area located in Pematang Buluh Sub-district, Betara District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, on Sunday (18/12) at 01.45 AM.
The incident occurred during the Trunk Line 12” repairment in NEB#9 and injured eight Jabung workers. As of this afternoon, all injured victims are in stable condition and have received necessary medical treatment at hospital.
A thorough investigation to find out the cause of the incident is underway. As of now, there has no environmental damage that reported. The incident also did not affect the average daily production of Jabung Working Area.
This standby statement will be updated based on the investigation updates in the field.
