On June 5, 2021, PetroChina Jabung visited Batik Idola, one of its CSR partners in Pemusiran Village, Tanjung Jabung Timur. Batik Idola is a batik craft shop specializing on products bearing the regency’s unique batik motifs. On the trip, PetroChina was accompanied by representatives of the Jambi industry and trade agency and the Tanjung Jabung Timur development planning agency, as well as Jambi University academic and entrepreneur Dede Martino.

Batik Idola owner Suraedah said that PetroChina was the first company to support her effort in developing local batik business. After opening her shop in 2016, Suraedah is now able to produce her own batik and expand her market access, not only in Jambi but also in other provinces in Indonesia.

“I was first interested in batik craft on a visit to a friend’s house years ago. I began learning the art in 2016. In 2017, I was able to produce my own batik. I name it Batik Idola. Alhamdulillah [Praise God], my business can now penetrate the national market,” she said.

Suraedah’s success, including in breaking into the national market, is a prime example of the well-nurtured collaboration between PetroChina and its stakeholders, including local agencies.

Not only has Batik Idola boosted the local economy, it also brings in various positive effects for the local community. During PetroChina’s visit, there was a batik training for students of SMAN 3 public high school of Nipah Panjang, Tanjung Jabung Timur, with Suraedah serving as the trainer. The training was aimed at providing a positive activity for young people based on love on local culture and craftsmanship.
