The “Sukorejo Ecotourism Village, Home of Liberica Coffee” is an integrated tourism area that offers various attractions, including  walking tours in coffee farms, enjoying bonsai and other native plants, taking pictures among 3D paintings and others. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, PetroChina and the community held a Zoom virtual launch on Tuesday, December 22, 2020.

Tanjung Jabung Barat regent Safrial officially launched the Sukorejo ecotourism village, which is part of PetroChina’s community development programs in 2020. In his opening remarks, PetroChina Vice President Human Resources and Relations Dencio Renato Boele said that the ecotourism project was a good result of many years’ works.

“We started the empowerment program for the coffee farmers back in 2015. At that time, we focused on how they improved the quality of the coffee cherries. We followed up the agriculture program with post-harvest training for the farmers so they could develop their own coffee products,” Dencio said.

“Now here we are, finally turn the coffee village into an ecotourism spot. It’s a proud moment for both PetroChina and the local community,” he continued.

There are eight spots in Sukorejo ecotourism village for the visitors to enjoy, namely Karya Pembangunan II liberica coffee seeding center; Syauqi Art gallery; Tambi Trubus bonsai art center; Kopi Luwak Kembar Alami, which offers civet-consumed coffee beans; three locations to learn about post-harvest process of liberica coffee; and the famous Gerai Meja coffee shop and the community center, which regularly hosts live music and various trainings for the local youth communities.

The virtual launch was attended by SKK Migas Sumbagsel spokesperson Andi Arie Pangeran, Head of Jambi Tourism Agency, officials in Tanjung Jabung Barat and several prominent figures in tourism industry.

“We hope the ecotourism movement will put Tanjung Jabung Barat on the modern tourism map in Indonesia, as well as new a place to go for coffee enthusiasts,” Dencio added.
