PetroChina Jabung collaborated with the Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of East Tanjung Jabung Regency to hold disaster awareness talks at SMAN 10 high school and SMPN 12 junior high school in East Tanjung Jabung on 28 August 2024.

The event is part of PetroChina's support to local efforts of raising disaster awareness and early prevention among local students. The aim is to integrate disaster preparedness and mitigation knowledge in schools in order to better protect teachers and students.

BPBD East Tanjung Jabung head Helmi Agustinus said that students attending the talks learn about what causes disasters and how to anticipate for and mitigate them.

“Hopefully, these students will forward the information they got from these talks to their friends, families and neighbours. When disasters occur, hopefully they will know what to do and where to report,” Helmi said.

Anisa, an SMPN 12 student attending the talk, said that the lessons she learnt from the event was important. “Now I feel more prepared and know what to do during a disaster,” she said.
