PetroChina continues to support local governments and communities in boosting healthcare programs in the areas surrounding Jabung Working Area. On Wednesday, 15 February 2023, PetroChina hosted stunting prevention training for healthcare workers in community health centers (puskesmas) and integrated mother-and-children healthcare posts (posyandu) in 14 villages in Betara District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. In the same occasion, the company also handed over 14 sets of anthropometry equipment to the local health centers.
A handover ceremony was held at the Betara District Head office, attended by PetroChina Jabung Field Manager Rudy Hermawan, Tanjung Jabung Barat Deputy Regent Hairan, Betara District Head Zaharudin, local village heads and government officials, as well as dozens of female teens, newlyweds and expecting mothers who participated in the training.
Other than a symbolic handover of the anthropometry equipment, there was also an administering of Vitamin A to children under five.
Rudy said that, as a prominent oil and gas company operating in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, PetroChina has special attention to stunting prevention and reduction program. According to him, stunting must be resolved as it may affect the quality of future workforce in a region.
“PetroChina gives a huge attention to improving human resource’s quality through community development programs in education and health,” Rudy said. “We provide the necessary tools and trainings to help local health agencies [to fight stunting] as part of our commitment in social responsibility.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Regent Hairan said that he appreciated PetroChina for supporting Tanjung Jabung Barat’s stunting reduction program. “Our stunting rate is currently below the national average, thanks to collective effort from all parties, including PetroChina. The equipment that PetroChina handed over today will help our local communities,” he said.
Betara District Head Zaharudin and Purwodadi Village Head Jayus echoed Hairan’s sentiment, saying that they hoped the anthropometry tools from PetroChina would further boost stunting prevention and reduction programs in the region.
Training participant Tri Wahyuni said that the training was great for local communities. “We gain new knowledge on the dangers of stunting and how to prevent and treat the condition. Hopefully, in the future, there will be no more stunting in Betara District,” she said.
