PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. hosted a seminar on zero waste on Aug. 27, 2022, as part of its commemoration of this year’s World Environment Day.
The seminar, officially themed “Satu Bumi Untuk Masa Depan” (“One Earth for the Future”), was attended exclusively by university students in Jambi Province. Waste and Industrial Waste Management Profession Certification Agency (LSP Lalinsa) lead assessor/auditor James Evert Adolf Liku and National Waste Banks and Waste Managers Association executive Santoso spoke at the event.
PetroChina Jabung HSSE Superintendent dr. Frans Henny said that event was part of the company’s special attention on environmental issues, including waste management.
“Today, we hold this zero waste seminar under the theme of ‘One Earth for the Future’ exclusively for university students to encourage them to care more for the environment,” he said.
Through the event, PetroChina aimed to urge the younger generation to be more creative and innovative in waste management, such as by implementing the 3R concept, comprising Reduce, Reuse and Recyle, in their daily life. The company also urges seminar attendees to support circular economy, which is a model of production and consumption that involves managing existing materials and products for as long as possible.
Furthermore, Frans also said that caring for the environment could start from small things done consistently, such as always carrying your own water bottle, lunchbox and grocery bag; not using plastic straws; using paper bags; and recycling plastics.
“Caring for the environment begins from ourselves. We need to raise awareness for a better environment,” he said.
