As part of the company’s commitment in ensuring environmental awareness and emergency preparedness in our working area, PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. is involved in the 2023 Joint Team on Forest Fire Preparedness in Betara District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi Province.

A preparedness assembly was held in the Betara Police Office on Wednesday morning, 15 February 2023. PetroChina Jabung representatives attended the event, alongside Betara District Head Nasrun, Kuala Betara District Head Hery Putra Syam, Mekar Jaya Subdistrict Head Khairul Syahri, Muntialo Village Head Muhammad Nasir, Teluk Kulbi Village Head Yuswaji, Bunga Tanjung Village Head Rahmat and others.

The assembly was also attended by personnel of the 419-03/Tungkal Ilir military command, Betara Police Office, Betara disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), Betara Fire Service, and local villages’ fire awareness groups and disaster preparedness groups.

“Our joint assembly on forest fire preparedness today is part of our collective readiness to prevent and fight forest fires, which require our collective attention and responsibility,” Betara Police Chief Adj. Comr. Dasep Nurdin Ansori said in his ceremony speech.

According to Dasep, special awareness is required to prevent fires in Betara and Kuala Betara Districts, as 70 percent of the region is peatland, which is prone to fire. “Forest fire prevention requires our special attention, especially during prolonged dry seasons,” he said.

After the assembly, all participants wore personal protective equipment (PPE) and inspect forest firefighting tools.

PetroChina is involved in the joint team on forest fire preparedness as the company has good firefighting readiness, including having skilled employees and necessary tools. Moreover, PetroChina operates in locations near fire-prone peatland in Betara District.
