SKK Migas ensures that PSC PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. is currently carrying out active, aggressive and efficient drilling program in 2023 in order to boost production and support the achievement of the government’s national oil and gas production target, namely 1 million BOPD and 12 BSCFD gas in 2030.

PetroChina, which operates Jabung Working Area in Tanjung Jabung Timur and Tanjung Jabung Barat Regencies, Jambi Province, has begun its Drilling Campaign 2023 by spudding in three wells namely SB-D21, NEB-93 and Panen-D15.

Between January and March, PetroChina has also carried out five workover and 11 well service activities. In total, Drilling Program 2023 will cover the spudding in of 11 development wells across six fields, with a production target of 1,122.62 BOPD of oil and condensate and 24.30 MMSCFD gas.

“We hope our drillings in 2023 will go on safely, in line with targets and provide good results. Successful drilling program is essential to boost production in Jabung and PetroChina’s contribution in the national oil and gas production,” PetroChina Vice President Human Resources and Relations Dencio Renato Boele said in a gathering with oil and gas journalists in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/4).

Dencio reaffirmed that PetroChina would continue improving its occupational health and safety standards in all of its oil and gas exploration and production in Jabung. “The implementation of health, safety, security and environmental principles will be our top priority,” he said.

PetroChina is also committed to providing gas supply for domestic needs. Currently, PetroChina has gas sales agreements with PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan for oil lifting in Rokan Block, PT Pelayanan Listrik Nasional Batam for electricity in and around Batam, PT Gemilang Jabung Energi for electricity in and around Tanjung Jabung Barat, and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara for household gas supply in Tanjung Jabung Barat.

“In the future, domestic gas demand is predicted to increase. PetroChina is ready to work together with more parties to fulfill domestic gas needs,” Dencio added.

In 2022, PetroChina booked average daily lifting of 15,618 BOPD of oil and condensate and 173 MMSCFD gas. Among PSCs nationwide, PetroChina ranked seventh for oil and condensate production and ninth for gas production and distribution.

Apart from contributing in national oil and gas production and state revenue, PetroChina is also an important part in regional development in and around Jabung area, especially in Tanjung Jabung Barat and Tanjung Jabung Timur Regencies, through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs.

“Jabung’s progress must also be felt by local communities living around our Working Area. We work together with local government, non-governmental organizations and local communities to create programs that benefit the people,” Dencio explained.

In March 2023, PetroChina handed over eight CSR 2022 programs with total value of Rp 16,798,457,400 to the Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency Government and four CSR 2022 programs with total value of Rp 4,718,212,900 to the Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency Government. These include infrastructure development, economic empowerment, education and other programs.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-2022, PetroChina focused its CSR programs on Covid-19 prevention and treatment. This year, PetroChina is preparing several programs in infrastructure development, economic development and tourism,” Dencio said.

As part of PSCs operating in two regencies, PetroChina also contributes in Oil and Gas Revenue Sharing Fund (DBH Migas) given to regions. In 2023, DBH Migas for Tanjung Jabung Timur will be Rp 67,521,460,000, up 16% from Rp 58,104,690,000 last year. Meanwhile, DBH Migas for Tanjung Jabung Barat reach Rp 248,195,883,000 in 2023, up 2% from 244,429,982,000 in 2022.

PetroChina also places local job creation as its top priority. Currently, almost 85% of workers in Jabung Field come from Jambi Province. “In the first period of Jabung PSC in 1993-2023, we have created more than 50,000 jobs. Many were given to Jambi natives,” Dencio added.

PetroChina has operated Jabung Working Area under monitoring and supervision of SKK Migas since 2022. In 2021, PetroChina obtained contract extension to manage Jabung for the period of 2023-2043.

SKK Migas Program and Communication Division Head Hudi Suryodipuro said that SKK Migas supported exploration and exploitation efforts carried out by PetroChina in Tanjung Jabung Barat and Tanjung Jabung Timur, Jambi Province.

“Jabung Block still has promising potentials. Aggressive drilling programs in our development wells are proof that PetroChina has strong commitment to boost its oil and gas production in support of increasing national oil and gas production, namely producing 1 million barrels of oil and 12 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day in 2030,” Hudi said on Wednesday (5/4).

Hudi continued that PetroChina’s aggressive exploration and exploitation has resulted in the company winning award for fastest spud in in 2023. The award was given by SKK Migas Deputy Chief Nanang Abdul Manaf to PetroChina President Director Qian Mingyang at the 5th CEO Forum in January 2023.
