PetroChina Indonesia won two awards at the 2022 National Capacity Forum Pre-Event Southern Sumatra, hosted by SKK Migas in Palembang, South Sumatra, on July 5-6.

The company brought two of its CSR program beneficiaries, namely Sukorejo Ecotourism and Batik Idola, to fill its exhibition booth at the event. Subsequently, the company won awards for best booth (3rd place) and best booth video, for its short video profile of Batik Idola.

Sukorejo Ecotourism is a local tourism initiative based on Liberica coffee cultivation in Mekar Jaya Village, Betara District, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi, that PetroChina has helped develop since 2015. Meanwhile, Batik Idola managed by Mrs. Suraedah in Pemusiran Village, Nipah Panjang District, Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, has received sustainable batik-making development assistance facilitated by PetroChina since 2016. Batik Idola has showcased its products in various exhibitions in Indonesia and Malaysia. PetroChina has received several recognitions for both development programs.

The National Capacity Forum aims to increase the capacity of local companies providing goods and services for Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas industry, as part of the industry’s awareness campaign on the use of local contents in its operations. The event in Palembang was part of the lead-up towards the national forum to be held in Jakarta in late July 2022.

PetroChina’s VP Supply Chain Management Gusminar served as coordinator for the Palembang event, where he gave an opening remarks. Meanwhile, CSR Superintendent Adrian Wibisono spoke in a discussion session on “Developing Local Capacity in Jambi”.

“A number of small enterprises developed by PSCs also attend this year’s event. These small enterprises are proof of the important role the upstream oil and gas industry plays in community development in the areas where we operate,” Gusminar said.

Suraedah, who managed Batik Idola, said that she was deeply moved to be invited to the forum. “I am from a village, so joining this event is a very proud moment for me personally. Moving forward, I hope I will be more creative and innovative [in producing batik],” she said.

Jambi Governor Al Haris, who also attended the event, said that he appreciated SKK Migas and PSCs for their commitment to support local industries, including MSMEs and cooperatives. “I am proud to be here and see that SKK Migas and PSCs have this vision of supporting local businesses, many of which often have problems in branding and market penetration. Hopefully, this event can serve as a business matching between various stakeholders,” he said.

Separately, SKK Migas Deputy of Procurement Control Rudi Satwiko reaffirmed SKK Migas’ commitment on community development and increasing local capacity. “The upstream oil and gas industry can help boost local entities, including cooperatives and small enterprises, in order to increase added values for local communities,” he said.
