In celebrating the 77th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence, PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. supported SKK Migas Fun Bike Merdeka 77 in Jambi city on Sunday, 21 August 2022.

The event, held in collaboration between Jambi City Government, SKK Migas and Jambi-based PSCs, was enthusiastically attended by 1,576 cyclists from all over Jambi province. “Participants come not only from Jambi city but also from regencies of Bungo, Tebo, Merangin, Sarolangun, Batanghari, Tanjung Jabung Barat, Tanjung Jabung Timur and Muaro Jambi,” Jambi city mayor Syarif Fasha said in his opening remarks.

In the event’s opening, Syarif was accompanied by SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office head Anggono Mahendrawan and SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office public relations department head Andi Arie Pangeran. PetroChina Jabung HSSE Superintendent dr. Frans Henny attended on behalf of PetroChina Jabung Field Manager.

Cyclists gathered since 6 a.m. around the Keris Siginjai Monument in Kota Baru, Jambi City. They joined the race in four distance categories, namely 17 KM, 8 KM, 45 KM and 77 KM. The first three categories represent the date of Indonesian independence, which is August 17, 1945.

Jambi City’s communication and information agency head Abu Bakar said that the city government could host a fun bike event this year as the number of Covid-19 cases had been declining. Due to widespread enthusiasm for the event, registration that should have been closed on Aug. 17 was eventually extended for two days.
