PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. received two green PROPER ranks for its upstream oil and gas operations in Jabung Block from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in a virtual awarding ceremony on December 28, 2021.

As the annual assessment of companies’ environment management performance, PROPER seeks to promote adherence to environmental regulations. Green, the second highest rank after gold, is dedicated for companies that go “beyond compliance” in PROPER criteria.

“Two green PROPER status for PetroChina’s oil operation (in Geragai) and gas operation (Betara) highlighted our efforts to pursue environmental sustainability, as well as active participation from local communities through our social investment programs,” said Vice President Technical and Business Development Yu Jinbao.

Green rank in PROPER assessment system covers various issues, including innovations in Environment Management System, Solid and Hazardous Waste, Water Conservation, Emissions Reduction and Energy Efficiency and environmental-focused social investment programs.

In addition to green PROPER ranks, PetroChina recorded several environmental, health and safety awards throughout 2021. In November, PetroChina was one of only 14 companies receiving prestigious Patra Karya award, and one of 75 companies receiving Patra Nirbhaya Karya Utama Adinugraha award from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

In September last year, PetroChina won its second Subroto Award from Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for safe working hours without accident in oil and gas safety category. Since December 15, 2011, until April 30, 2021, PetroChina achieved more than 66 million safe man hours.

As PetroChina prepares to continue the operatorship of Jabung Working Area in 2023, Act. GM Jabung Budi Tyas Utomo said that these awards served as a good start and motivated the company to improve the health and safety management system.

“Amidst the pandemic of COVID-19, we are very honored with these two awards. As Jabung Block operator, we try our best to continue the operation and achieve the production target while tirelessly implementing strict health protocols for all our employees,” said Budi.
