SKK Migas and Production Sharing Contractor (PSC) PetroChina International Jabung Ltd. (PCJL) has begun socializing its 3D & 2D Seismic Survey 2023 in East Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province, on September 4, 2023. The company plans to begin its 15-month-long 2023 Seismic Survey in Jabung Working Area in the fourth quarter of this year. 

The 3D & 2D Seismic Survey socialization was held at the hall of the East Tanjung Jabung Regent’s Office. It was attended by East Tanjung Jabung Regency Secretary Sapril, Tanjung Jabung Military District Commander Lieut. Col. Muslim Rahim Tompo, East Tanjung Jabung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Heri Supriawan, SKK Migas Southern Sumatra Representative Office formality and communication department head Syafei Syafri, Field Manager Jabung I Wayan Suandana and PCJL Exploration Manager Hendra Niko Saputra.   

The 3D Seismic Survey will be carried out on a 121-sqkm area in Ketemu Prospect and a 71-sqkm area in Rukam Prospect. Meanwhile, the 2D Survey will be carried out in a number of areas along a 250-kilometer line on the eastern side of Jabung Working Area. “The 2023 seismic survey will cover 31 villages in five districts in East Tanjung Jabung, with a total of 28,136 spots,” Hendra Niko said.

“During the 15 months of work, including mobilization and demobilization of equipment, the 3D and 2D surveys will involve 950 workers, many of whom are locals in East Tanjung Jabung,” he continued.

Seismic survey is an oil and gas exploration activity that seeks to obtain subsurface images of potential locations for oil and gas reserves. In this activity, seismic waves are propagated into the soil and then reflected to the surface. Vibroseis or explosives are used as seismic sources, while geophones are used to record the waves.  

After seismic data is received and recorded, it will provide information of the best locations to find oil and gas. Afterwards, the data is processed with an application.

“This 3D and 2D seismic survey is a Firm Working Commitment by PCJL and part of the governments strategic effort to boost Indonesia’s oil and gas reserves, especially in Jabung Working Area,” Niko affirmed.

As PCJL has been granted contract extension to manage Jabung Working Area for the period of 2023-2043, the company strives to increase various exploration and development programs to boost Jabung production. 

Other than the 3D and 2D Seismic Survey, PCJL also plans other exploration programs, namely the drilling of two exploration wells, NEB SUN-1 and NEB BASE-3, as part of the Firm Working Commitment in Jabung Working Area in 2023.

PCJL will also carry out 11 drilling programs in six fields in Jabung Working Area this year. Currently, six wells have been spudded, namely WB-D16, NEB-101, SB-D21, NEB-93, Panen-D15 and NEB-83.

The spud in of SB-D21 well on 22 January 2023 was appreciated by SKK Migas as the fastest well spud in of 2023. Overall, this year’s drilling program is aimed at boosting PCJL’s production by 1,122.62 BPD of oil and condensate and 24.30 MMSCFD of gas. In 2022, PCJL achieved its drilling targets of 14 oil and gas wells.

Throughout 2022, PCJL booked average daily lifting realization of 15,618 BPD of oil and condensate as well as 173 MMSCFD of gas. Among other PSCs, PetroChina is ranked seventh for oil and condensate production, and ninth for gas production and distribution.

As a PSC operating in West Tanjung Jabung and East Tanjung Jabung Regencies, PCJL also contributes in oil and gas profit sharing to local regions. In 2023, oil and gas profit sharing reached Rp 67,521,460,000 for East Tanjung Jabung and Rp 248,195,883,000 for West Tanjung Jabung.
