Block in Sumatra is one of the most exciting blocks that PetroChina has acquired. When PetroChina took over the PSC covering the Jabung Block in Jambi, earlier exploration efforts has yielded oil and gas discoveries in various locations such as North Geragai, Makmur, North Betara, Northeast Betara and Gemah.

PetroChina International Bangko Ltd.

 
When PetroChina took over the PSC covering Bangko Block that is located at the border of Jambi and South Sumatra Provinces, the company was certain of its potential. Test on the block's Gambang-1 discovery produced 116 BOPD with small amounts of gas. The results prompted the company to drill two more wells in 2005, and it estimates the Gambang field holds 55 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF) of natural gas.
